Inheritance and Innovation: The Sustainable Beauty of Bamboo and Lace
We are thrilled to announce that the collaboration between Minglin Lace and Kun Shan University has been recognized at the IDA Design Awards, with the entry by lead designers Wang Ziyi, Chen Hongling, and Ding Zigui winning the Bronze Award in the Fashion Design / Recycled and Sustainable Fashion category.
Project Overview
Inspired by the heritage of Taiwan, this collection takes bamboo—a material deeply ingrained in local culture—as its central theme. From food and clothing to daily life and transportation, bamboo craftsmanship was once an integral part of traditional Taiwanese life. The collection seamlessly integrates traditional bamboo weaving artistry with contemporary fashion, paying homage to the cultural and historical value of this timeless craft while innovating for the future.
Design Philosophy
Striking a balance between tradition and innovation, this project reinterprets bamboo weaving techniques as a fashion expression. It aims to showcase the sustainable and cultural significance of bamboo craftsmanship, creating a new perspective on its application and inspiring greater awareness of environmental sustainability and traditional art forms.
This award not only highlights the designers’ creativity and dedication but also emphasizes the potential of combining traditional craftsmanship with sustainable fashion. Looking ahead, we will continue to champion the integration of cultural heritage and modern design, bringing the beauty of these crafts to a global audience.
