Minglin Lace has been in Tainan for nearly a century. Six years ago, the second generation Lin Shuzhen took over, starting a cultural and creative innovation, capturing the young market, integrating canvas, denim and other elements, turning it into cute and casual daily necessities, making lace no longer It's just a synonym for nobility and romance.
Ming Lin Lace did not start with lace. The first generation Lin Maosong first sold buttons, needlework and needlework in a small store of 5 square meters in 1959, and later sold lace, which is abundant in Tainan's textile industry.
The rise of Taiwan's textile industry in the 1960s was an era of booming ready-made garments. Ming Lin was the largest lace supplier in Taiwan at that time, with constant orders. However, in the 1980s, the textile industry moved overseas, with only 20% of orders left. It gradually declined and struggled to survive for more than 20 years. Later, I considered closing the business several times.
"From a bustling crowd to a sparse crowd," the second-generation Lin Shuzhen was reluctant to let her parents' efforts go to waste, and she was unwilling to let Tainan's industry continue to flow out. Six years ago, she decided to take over and try to give the old store new life.
She said that she grew up surrounded by lace and had no special thoughts about lace. However, after taking over the business, she began to research its history. The lace sold was all from Tainan Textile. "It is of great significance to protect Tainan's industry." After she re-understood lace, she said That means falling in love with it.
Because lace is light and soft, Lin Shuzhen believes that it can be widely used. She changed the lace cloth into a lace design. In addition to being made into hair accessories, necklaces, scarves, mobile phone bags, etc., it is also used as decoration on furniture, flip-flops, and cups. It is full of creativity. , both wholesale and retail.
But Lin Shuzhen keeps thinking about how to renovate old stores to attract young people? She integrates cultural creativity, combines materials such as denim and canvas, and creates lively designs that break the traditional impression of lace.
In the 57 years since its establishment, Ming Lin Lace has gone through the ups and downs of Taiwan's economy. Now it is starting anew, hoping to lead the trend with lace and write a new history for Taiwan's economic context.
